I’m overwhelmed. Michael has been my friend a long time. We were in three different units together, we were both on the Korean DMZ and went to Desert Storm with me. Had my back there that’s for sure. Always fun to be around, a very good NCO and soldier who loved his daughters. SFC Robert Bashaw

Sarge was one of my favorite people, and I was very saddened to hear of his loss. He was a great man and a hard worker. On behalf of myself, my family, and his last work family at Denali Iron and Disposal, we send our condolences to his family. We are all here for his family and our thoughts and prayers go out to you all. Sarge will surely be missed by us all. Rest in peace brother, we love you.

SSG Michael Carter was my Squad Leader from about 1998-2000. We had many times together from the reserve center, Camp Robinson, Fort Chaffee, Fort McClellan, AL and Roll Stone Camp, England. SSG Carter taught me troop leading procedures, the importance of being on time, and knowing your Soldiers. I have not spoken to him in 18 years but he will always be an important part of what made me the Soldier and Leader I am today. I am sad to lose a comrade in Arms and a friend. SGM Joseph Ussery
