During one of my several visits to my home state of Arkansas years ago, I stopped in at the barber shop to see Johnny. He did not recognize me at first so I told him who I was was. He gave me such a nice welcome. I knew Johnny when I was a young boy growing up in Morrilton. You see, I shined shoes at Jays Barber shop when Johnny worked there. During the lull time at the shop we were alway acting up. He once showed me how to drink a coke in less than 5 seconds. He had great character, treated everyone the same. I know Jay hated to see him move on. I remember seeing his wife and the youngest son once or twice when they stopped by on an occasional Saturday night at closing. I remember Jerry his brother stopping by. I stopped by the Atkins barber shop last year and inquired about Johnny. I left a message. I hope he got it. Thank you for allowing me to share this message.

Carlene, you and the family are in my prayers. I will miss him, especially when I meet up with you, it was always J L and Carlene. I will also miss being able to talk Austin genealogy with him, he knew and remembered so much about our family. May you be comforted by remembering his faith in Jesus Christ our Lord. Sue Roberts
