Ruth Elizabeth Teal, 93 of Atkins passed away Tuesday, June 8, at Atkins Nursing Center. She was born August 11, 1927 in Russellville to the late Walter and Nora Bradshaw Wilson.
She graduated from Atkins High School and attended Central Baptist College and Arkansas Tech University (then Arkansas Polytechnic College).
Ruth was a lifelong member of Atkins First United Methodist Church. She was a Sunday School teacher, member of the WMU, a certified Lay Speaker, and was active in many other areas of the church.
Ruth had a 36 year career as an Arkansas Court Reporter, serving in several of the courts in the River Valley, among which were the courts of Judge Patterson, Judge Mobley and Judge Swindell. She was an avid volunteer. Among those she supported were the American Legion Auxiliary (Past State President), Arkansas Girls State (Past Director), Order of the Eastern Star (Past Matron), Pope County Bar Association (Secretary-Treasurer), Arkansas Tech Wesley Foundation, (Age to Age Board) and the Atkins Public Schools (Volunteer Coordinator).
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and her husband James G. Teal.
She is survived by sons, Paul Teal (Diane Potter), Gaylon Teal (Lissa); grandchildren, Chris Teal, Jamie Teal, Erin Aylor (Warren), Sarah Bauman; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 12 at Lemley Chapel. The family will greet friends at the visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Atkins under the direction of Lemley Funeral Service of Atkins.
Pallbearers are Paul Teal, Gaylon Teal, Max Aylor, Asa Aylor, Ray Caldwell, and Donnie Reel.
Honorary Pallbearers are Larry Ennis, Warren Aylor, Buddy Goines, and David Durbin.
The family would like to thank Meals on Wheels, St. Mary’s Hospital, Atkins Nursing Center, and Arkansas Hospice for their care and kindness to Ruth.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Atkins First United Methodist Church and to the Arkansas Tech Wesley Foundation Age to Age program.
