Obituary for Nell Warren

Nell Burnett Warren, of Atkins, passed away Thursday, October 10, 2019, at the age of 93. Nell was the youngest of six children and was born on June 5, 1926, daughter of the late Walter and Mamie Ellison Burnett of Atkins. She was married to R.A. Warren from 1946 until his death in 2010.
Nell was a 1944 graduate of Atkins High School. After graduation, she spent time in Washington D.C. working for the FBI. After marrying R.A., they moved to Los Angeles, California, where Nell worked for AT&T for 35 years before retiring and returning to Atkins. Nell was very active in the Democratic Party. She was treasurer of the Pope County Democrat Women and Vice Chairman of the Pope County Democrat Central Committee. She served on the Pope County Quorum Court for 15 years, Atkins City Council, and was an elected Pope County Justice of the Peace, officiating over 500 weddings. Additionally, Nell was an active member of several organizations such as the Baker-Cheek Post of the VFW, People for a Better Atkins, and the Atkins Family Community Education Club. Nell was also featured in the 2013 City of Russellville Calendar highlighting women who were breast cancer survivors. Nell worked hard and was very honored to have been part in getting the EMS in Atkins and paving the Happy Bend Road for the residents of that area. Nell was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church of Atkins and previous board member of Oakland Cemetery. In recognition for her years of community service, Nell was honored as Atkins PBA 2014 Citizen of the Year.
She was preceded in death by her husband, R.A. Warren; parents, Walter and Mamie Ellison Burnett; siblings, Cray Burnett, Duard Burnett, Mary Burnett Treat, and Heartsill Burnett; and stepdaughter, Kathryn Maston.
She is survived by her sister, Clarene Burnett Swearingen of Little Rock, stepson, James Carl Warren of Russellville, and stepdaughter, Edna Carothers of Russellville.
Memorial services will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 12, at Lemley Chapel with Bro. Charlie Bird officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services.
