James Robert “Michael” Gillies, 79, of Hector, passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2020, at his home. He was born December 17, 1940, in Wildwood, Alberta, Canada.
He was baptized as one of the Jehovah's Witnesses.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Russell; stepfather, Norman Gillies; and his mother, Justine Brown, all of Canada.
He leaves behind his wife of 56 years, Gloria Jean Gillies; brother, Dennis Russell of Aldergrove, BC; sister, Dale Eliason of Bridge Lake, BC; half-sister, Kathy Neilson of Canada; son, Glen Gillies and wife Donna of Russellville; 3 daughters, Sherry Acosta, Tammy Kibler, and Brandy and husband Robert Kotila; 5 grandchildren, Darren Acosta, Ryan and Kate Kibler, Staci Aslakson and Tiffani Gillies; and 8 great-grandchildren.
He was employed as a diesel mechanic for Woodline Motor Freight and later for the Tyson Maintenance Shop at Pottsville. He was an amateur Ham radio operator, KD5HVC. He enjoyed attending HamFests and talking with all of his Ham operator buddies.
