Obituary for Laverne Gipson

Anna LaVerne Gipson 85 of Atkins fell asleep in this world and woke in the arms of Jesus, Tuesday, March 26, 2019.
Born October 10, 1933 in Delaware, Arkansas to James Carl and Ruby Jewell Riley Bratton, she married Rev. James Calvin Gipson October 29, 1949. Together, they raised seven children.
She is preceded in death and now reunited with her parents; her husband of more than 60 years; brother, John Bratton; sister, Mary Ellen Miller; 2 grandsons, Warren and Eric Nygaard; great-grandchild, Bella Smith and several brothers and sisters-in-law.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, 3 sons and daughters-in-law, William and Sherrie Gipson; Dennis and Karen Hart; James and Leslie Gipson; 4 daughters and sons-in-law, Sherry and Ernest Barnett; Cathy and Gregory Smith; Diane and Mathew Anders; Laverne and Rick Chisum; 15 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great grandchildren she adored.
Known by both Anna and LaVerne, she was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She brought wisdom and laughter to our hearts and home. She loved her family, especially the grandchildren, and pointed all to Jesus with grit and grace. Her smiles will forever be missed and our lives forever better for having been loved by this amazing woman.
The family has been blessed by the love and fellowship of Kenwood Freewill Baptist, First Baptist Church of Pottsville, Fair Park Baptist and St. Joe Freewill Baptist Church, as well as a host of family and friends, all of whom have fed us and prayed for us.
Family will gather for visitation on Sunday, March 31st from 2:00-4:00 PM at Lemley Funeral Home in Atkins. Services will be held in Lemley Chapel on Monday, April 1, 2019 at 10:00 AM. Her grandsons Will Gipson and Will Vodrazka will officiate and have the honor of serving her as pallbearers along with her grandsons, Jason Barnett; Mathew Anders; David Gipson; Marty Bowden; Casey Scott; and Daniel Smith Burial will follow in Atkins City Cemetery. Family will be served lunch by St. Joe Freewill Baptist Church.
