Obituary for James Tyson

James Roy Tyson, 80, died July 23rd at home surrounded by family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Loretta, children Toni Tyson-Robins (Scott), Ardis Todd Tyson, Teresa Shah (Paresh), Tomar Komla, Beth Lee (Danny), John Shearer (Shannon), and sister Linda Ross (Marshall).

James was a third generation newspaper man. He and his father were partners at the Augusta Advocate. James, his mother, and father, Floy Cole Tyson, and LeRoy Tyson owned and operated Tyson Communications which published newspapers in Lake Village, Dermott, and Eudora. He was Composing Room Foreman in St. Thomas, Virgin Island and at the Scottsdale Progress and Mesa Tribune in Arizona.

James attended grade school in Atkins and graduated from Augusta High School where he was a star running back and linebacker. He also is a graduate of Ouachita Baptist College. He served as a Captain in the U.S. Army. Arkansas has always been home to James, especially Atkins.

A family memorial will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 26th at All Saints Episcopal Church in Russelleville.
