Obituary for Hershel Ray Howard

Hershel Ray Howard 82 of Russellville, passed away peacefully, Friday, March 22, surrounded by his family at Central Arkansas Veterans Healthcare. He was born January 22, 1942, in Decatur, Texas to the late Elbert Brown and Vesta Dalene Harrison Howard.

It was a true Honor for Hershel to serve in the Marine Corps. for 12 ½ years and work for the Riverside Police Dept. for 23 years. He loved hunting and fishing but spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren brought him the most joy. After he retired, he enjoyed doing his woodwork and crafting things to prank anyone he met. He enjoyed handing out pennies with the cross and giving it to people at the VA or anyone he made friends with. When meeting Hershel you were no longer a stranger but a friend for life.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Betty Gail Howard; sons-in-law, Lyndell Gilbertson, and William Chrisman; sister, Mary Dalene Wright; and a brother, Charles Howard.

Here to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 60 years, Diann (Evans) Howard; their children, Diane M. Chrisman, Hershel Ray Howard, JR. (Jennifer), Tanhan Gilbertson, and John Howard (Angie); grandchildren, Hailey and husband Scott, Mason, Maddie, and Riley; sister, Deborah Seyfreid; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.

A family conducted celebration of life will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, April 13, at Evans Mtn. Full Gospel Church (820 Evans Mtn. Rd. Atkins, AR 72823) with Bro. James Chronister officiating. The burial will follow in Atkins City Cemetery with Military Honors provided by Marine Corps. League 1310.

Honorary pallbearers are the Marine Corps. League 1310 Brotherhood.
