Obituary for Gary Parrish
Gary Neil Parrish, 84, of Morrilton, went to be with his Heavenly Father, March 15, 2022. He was born in Galax, Virginia, January 20, 1938, the son of the late Melvin and Irene Parrish. He was of the protestant faith, and was a graduate of Woodlawn High School. Following graduation, he attended North Carolina State University for 4 years and Ohio State University for 2 years, majoring in industrial engineering.
He moved to Morrilton in 1974, where he worked for Crompton Mills until they closed. He worked for Walmart as a truck driver until his retirement in 2015. He married Modeen Tedder May of Morrilton in 1978. He had many interests, going to Oaklawn Race Track to watch the horses run, playing golf with his friends, and music of all kinds. He also had a pilots license and loved to fly.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a grandson, Alexander Zimmerman.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Modeen Tedder Parrish; 4 children, Christopher Parrish of Raleigh, NC, Kenneth Todd May and wife Julia of Sherwood, Debbie May Zimmerman of Arlington, TX, and Susan May Hoyt of Russellville; 5 grandchildren, Deanna Roberts of Morrilton, Andrea Gonzales of Celina, TX, Anthony Hoyt and wife Monica of Bethany, OK, Adam Zimmerman and wife Andria of Fayetteville, and Dylan Hoyt of Morrilton; 8 great grandchildren, Michael Roberts II, Justus Brewer, Daniel, Joseph and Makayla Hoyt, Alessandria and Lela Gonzelez and Keely Hickson; sister, Peggy Smythers and husband Johnny of Mt. Crawford, VA; aunt, June Kirby of Michigan; stepmother, Betty Parrish of Galax, VA; and many special cousins and friends.
Graveside service and burial will be held 2:00 PM, Monday, March 21, at Atkins City Cemetery under the direction of Lemley Funeral Service of Atkins.
