Obituary for Francis Gay Embry

Francis Gay Embry, 93, of Atkins, passed away Saturday, May 14, 2022, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Russellville. He was born August 16, 1928, in Blackwell, son of the late William Ray and Audrey Arnold Embry. He was a graduate of Atkins High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of the Atkins First Baptist Church. Gay farmed the Atkins bottoms for more than 60 years growing crops that ranged from wheat, soybeans, cotton, corn, and rice to watermelon, green beans, and sunflowers.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Zeta Embry and second wife, Darlene Embry; and 4 brothers, Billy Dee Embry, Carl Embry, Dwain Embry and David Embry.

He is survived by his sons, Jeffrey and Darla Embry, Francis Gaylord and Rita R. Embry; step-children, Mary Ann and Bill Sorrels, Martha and Doc Hall, and Billy and Angela Kindrick; sister, Debie (Embry) and James Duvall; grandchildren, Ben and Nancy Embry, Anna and Matt Parks, William Ray and Rose Embry, Rebecka Embry Virden; step-grandchildren, Chris Sorrels, Cassey Sorrels, Tara Hollingsworth, Clint Kindrick, Candace Kindrick, and Andrea Kindrick Mullen; and great-grandchildren, Scott and John Embry, and Layton and Jack Parks.

Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM, Tuesday, at Lemley Chapel.

Funeral services are 11:00 AM, Wednesday, May 18, at Atkins First Baptist Church with Rev. Roy Smith officiating. Burial is in Atkins City Cemetery under the direction of Lemley Funeral Service of Atkins.

Pallbearers are Paul Foshee, David Bolin, Lynn Embry, Brian Embry, Morris Embry, James Alexander, Robert Stobaugh, and Barry Stobaugh.
