Alton “Hoot” Nelson, 85 of Atkins, passed away Saturday, April 1, at the Arkansas Hospice River Valley Home in Russellville. He was born June 27, 1937, in White flat, Texas, to the late Charlie and Lillie Mae Bradbury Nelson.
He attended Woodlawn Free Will Baptist Church and was a Mason of the Masonic Lodge of Shiloh #552. Hoot loved his family and friends deeply. Enjoyed traveling, camping, and four-wheeling.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Duvall Nelson; 2 sons, Dennis F. Nelson, and Greg D. Nelson; siblings, Gerald Allen Nelson, Floyd Lee Nelson, Clara Jo Nelson Ewing, and Loretta Sue Nelson.
He is survived by his grandson, Greg and Kacey Nelson; great-grandson, Dennis Nelson; daughter-in-law, Lisa Nelson; and several nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
Visitation will be held 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Thursday, April 6, at Lemley Chapel.
Graveside service and burial will be held 11:00 AM, Friday, April 7, at Shady Grove Cemetery with Rev. Chad Duvall and Rev. Jerry Burris officiating under the direction of Lemley Funeral Service of Atkins.
Pallbearers are Greg Nelson, Stevie Duvall, Mitchell Moore, John Duvall, Mark Anderson, and Luke Duvall.
