Obituary for Darrell L. Gentry

Darrell L. Gentry, 80, of Durant, OK, died Friday, February 19, 2010, at his residence.

He was born April 24, 1929, in Altus, AR, to the late Verstil James Melvin and Doris (ONeal) Gentry. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Billy Gentry, and a sister, Reba Kennedy. Darrell grew up in Mead, and was a graduate there. He was a professor with the University of Central Arkansas for twenty-seven years where he taught statistics and research methods to graduate students. In 2000, he moved to Arlington, Texas, and on February 24, 2002, he married Eula May Epperson. A year ago, they moved to Durant so he could be close to the lake because he absolutely loved fishing. Darrell was a veteran of the U. S. Army, a mason, and was of the Southern Baptist faith. Besides his passion for fishing, he also enjoyed traveling and reading.

He is survived by his wife, Eula Gentry of Durant, and a brother, Rex Gentry and his wife, Ina of Arlington, Texas.

Graveside service and burial will be in Plumerville Cemetery, Plumerville, Arkansas at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, February 24, 2010, under the direction of Lemley Funeral Service of Atkins.
