Obituary for Alfred E. Duvall

Alfred E.  Duvall
Alfred E. Duvall, 81, of Atkins, passed away Friday, August 15, 2014, at his home. He was born May 17, 1933, in Pope County, son of the late Robert E.L. “Bud” and Hazel Sexton Duvall.
He married Edith Pearce January 25, 1957, at home in Atkins. Alfred worked at AVI Poultry, Arkansas Wirebound Box Factory, International Paper Company unloading pulpwood trucks to rail cars in Russellville and Clarksville, helped build Interstate 40 through the Atkins area, and was a commercial fisherman before retiring. In his retirement, he took up gardening North of Atkins. He was a singer in his home church, Atkins First Free Will Baptist, and was a member of the Atkins Free Will Singers and the Spiritual Five, with whom he traveled many miles to sing.
He loved spending time with family: his sons and their wives, grandkids, great-grandkids, church family, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was an avid hunter of all kinds of birds and animals, and loved to fish until he lost his eyesight to macular degeneration.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 sisters, Mary Lou Crabtree and Barbara Duvall.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Edith Pearce Duvall, of the home; 2 sons, Douglas Duvall and wife Dorcas of Pea Ridge, and Robert Duvall and wife Julie of Atkins; 2 brothers, Jerl D. Duvall and Gary Duvall and wife Debbie, all of Atkins; 5 sisters, Junita and husband Louis Ermer, Loretta “Bo” and husband Cleo Casarez, Martha Hern, Sharon Creek, and Delois and husband Pat Burnett.
Funeral services are 2:00 PM, Monday, August 18, at Atkins First Free Will Baptist Church, with Rev. Johnny McCoy and Rev. Jim McNutt officiating. Burial is in Shady Grove Cemetery by Lemley Funeral Service of Atkins. Visitation is from 2:00-4:00 PM Sunday.
Pallbearers are Todd Pearce, Duard Pearce, Rick Pearce, Larry Don Duvall, Mark Duvall and Robert Crabtree. Honorary pallbearers are Lance Hern, Josh Pearce, Jerl Wayne Duvall, and men of the Church.
